Cellar Series: Savaterre

On Wednesday, 30 September, join us at Society in the East Room for a one-of-a-kind evening with Savaterre’s Keppell Smith. He will guide guests through two vertical tastings, featuring vintages dating back to 2012, alongside a specially curated menu by Executive Chef Joachim Lim. Opportunities like this are exceptionally rare, as Savaterre is not open to the public except by private appointment.

Australia’s leading wine critic and Beechworth specialist Jeni Port writes, “On the outskirts of Beechworth, as the eyes and hearts of wine lovers are drawn to Giaconda on the left-hand side of the road, there is an equally iconic winemaker just to the right.” That winemaker is Keppell Smith, founder of the iconic Savaterre.

A true one-man-band winery, Savaterre was established in 1996 after Keppell spent years researching Australia’s finest wine regions. Today, his Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are among the country’s most sought-after wines, coveted by collectors and consistently earning outstanding scores from the world’s leading wine critics. The Chardonnay is particularly prized for its purity, complexity and precision, while the Pinot Noir is celebrated for its intricate detail and elegance and, at times, Burgundian-inspired style.
