CELLAR SERIES: MOUNT MARY
On 9 September, join third-generation Mount Mary winemaker Sam Middleton at Society to discover why Mount Mary has long been, and remains, a benchmark among Australia’s independent fine wine producers.
In the early 1970s, Dr John Middleton and his wife, Marli, transformed a former sheep station in the Yarra Valley into Mount Mary, one of Australia’s defining fine wine estates. Their vision helped spark the region’s resurgence as a premium wine destination. While inspired by the great traditions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, Mount Mary has always remained distinctly its own. As Sam Middleton reflects, “My grandpa took inspiration from those two regions, but we’re not trying to make Burgundy or Bordeaux in the Yarra Valley.”
Alongside a menu designed by Executive Chef Joachim Lim, guests will enjoy the acclaimed white and red Bordeaux blends, Triolet and Quintet, with vintages spanning more than a decade. These wines are renowned for their intensity and concentration while maintaining the freshness and elegance that have become Mount Mary’s hallmark. Two vintages each of the beautifully balanced, age-worthy Chardonnay and Pinot Noir will also be served side by side.
